Quick answer: there is no single number, because "getting paid" on Instagram means three different things. Instagram's own tools in India start at 500 followers for Gifts, 1,000 for Creator Marketplace and 10,000 for Subscriptions. Brands set no minimum, and on our marketplace creators with a connected Instagram account and under 10,000 followers list Reels at a median of ₹2,000. UGC has no follower requirement at all.
Most pages answer this with one round number. That number is usually a guess. The real answer depends on who is paying you: Instagram, a brand, or a brand that only wants your video and not your audience. Each has its own threshold, and I checked the Instagram ones on Instagram's own help pages.
The three thresholds in one table
| Threshold | What it gives you | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 500 followers | Instagram Gifts on Reels, available in India | Instagram Help Centre |
| 1,000 followers | Meta Creator Marketplace, where brands find creators for branded content | Instagram Help Centre |
| 10,000 followers | Instagram Subscriptions, available in India | Instagram Help Centre |
| Not open in India | Instagram bonuses (invite only, other countries) | Instagram Help Centre |
| No minimum | Paid brand deals, if the brand wants you | InfluencerMetric marketplace, 12 October 2026 |
| No minimum | UGC work for brands, paid per video | See the UGC guide linked below |
1. What Instagram itself requires in India
Instagram pays you directly through a few programmes. Each has a follower floor and a few other conditions. I read all four help pages in October 2026.
Gifts: 500 followers
The Instagram Help Centre lists the rules for Gifts. Among them: "Have at least 500 followers." You also need a professional account, must be 18 or older, and must have a payout account set up. India is on the list of countries where Gifts is available. Gifts are the lowest bar Instagram sets for earning money from the platform. How they pay and how to turn them on is covered in our guide to monetising Instagram Reels in India, so I will not repeat it here.
Creator Marketplace: 1,000 followers
Meta Creator Marketplace is where brands search for creators. The help page says creators "must have a minimum of 1,000 followers," along with a professional, public account and being at least 18. It is described as available in countries where Meta advertising operates. We explain how it works in practice in the Instagram Creator Marketplace guide.
Subscriptions: 10,000 followers
Subscriptions let followers pay you monthly for exclusive content. The requirement on the help page reads: "Have a professional account on Instagram with at least 10,000 followers." India is in the supported country list. The page also carries a warning that the feature "may not be available to you yet," so meeting the number does not guarantee you will see the option. Instagram says to check your Professional dashboard.
Bonuses: not open in India
You will see "Instagram bonus" mentioned in many guides. Instagram's page says: "Bonuses are invite-only for selected creators in Japan, South Korea and the United States." India is not named, so there is no follower count to chase here. Ignore any video that sells you a bonus target.
The programmes above also require you to follow Instagram's monetisation policies. A follower count alone is never enough, and these rules can change, so check the help page before you plan around a number.
Show brands real numbers. Connect your Instagram on InfluencerMetric and your followers and engagement show as verified stats on your profile.
Create my creator profile2. Brand deals: no minimum, but size sets the price
I could not find any brand-side rule that says "you need X followers." Brands buy reach, fit and trust, and plenty of small accounts get booked. What followers change is the price.
Here is what creators list on our marketplace. Counted on 12 October 2026 from published listings: 173 packages from 72 creators, with a median of ₹2,500. For Instagram Reels, the median is ₹2,500 across 91 packages. These are prices creators list, not invoices that settled.
Split by followers, using only creators who connected their Instagram account so the follower number comes from Instagram itself:
| Followers (from Instagram) | Reel packages | Median listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Under 10,000 | 47 | ₹2,000 |
| 10,000 to 50,000 | 8 | ₹4,750 |
Two things to take from this. First, 47 Reel packages come from verified accounts under 10,000 followers, so small creators are listing and selling in numbers. Second, the 10,000 to 50,000 row rests on only 8 packages. Read it as a direction, not a rate card.

3. UGC: no follower minimum at all
UGC means you make a video for a brand to use on its own channels. The brand is buying your content, not your audience, so your follower count does not decide whether you get hired. You could do this with a new account. Start with how to become a UGC creator in India. On our marketplace the median UGC video package is ₹5,000, with the middle half between ₹3,875 and ₹7,875 (counted 12 October 2026).
Your first ₹ from Instagram, by follower band
Five steps. Do the ones for your band, then move on.
- 0 to 500 followers: sell video, not reach. Gifts are out of reach for now, but UGC is open. Make three sample videos and send them to small brands. The UGC guide shows how.
- 500 to 1,000: switch to a professional account and fix your profile. You now meet the Gifts follower rule, so set up the rest of the requirements. Tighten your bio and highlights using the perfect influencer profile checklist.
- 1,000 to 10,000: get found by brands. You meet the Creator Marketplace minimum. Build a one page media kit with the influencer media kit guide, then apply as described in the Creator Marketplace guide. Also start approaching brands yourself, using how to approach brands for collaboration.
- Before any deal: understand what you are agreeing to. Read what a brand collaboration means so you know the difference between paid, barter and affiliate work.
- 10,000+: add a second income line. Subscriptions open up, if the option appears on your dashboard. Keep taking brand work and raise your Reel price as your numbers grow.
Ready for a first paid booking? List a Reel package with a fixed price. Brands find and book creators, and payment is held until the work is approved.
