Quick answer: most Instagram income in India is brand money, not Instagram money. On our marketplace, counted on 12 October 2026, creators list a Reel at a median of ₹2,500, a Story at ₹1,300 and a feed post at ₹2,500, and Reels go from ₹2,000 under 10,000 followers to ₹4,750 at 10,000 to 50,000. Kofluence's 2025 report puts platform ad revenue at only 15% of creator earnings. Instagram's own payouts in India are Gifts (a revenue share of $0.01 per star, from 500 followers) and Subscriptions (from 10,000 followers); bonuses are not open to Indian creators.
There is no single answer because the money comes from four different places, and only one of them is Instagram. This guide covers where the money comes from, what brands pay per format, worked monthly examples by follower size, and what Instagram itself pays in India. Every figure is our own marketplace count or a report we name.
Where Instagram income in India actually comes from
There are four streams. Here is each one, with the only share we could verify from a named report.
- Brand deals. A brand pays you to make a Reel, Story or post about its product. Kofluence's Decoding Influence 2025 report (published July 2025) says sponsored collaborations are the top income stream for Indian creators. Our own marketplace data below shows what they pay per format. For what counts as a paid collaboration and how to reply to one, read brand collaboration meaning.
- Affiliate. You share a link or code and earn a commission on sales. No report we opened gives an Indian commission figure, so we publish none.
- Instagram's own tools. Gifts and Subscriptions are live in India. Kofluence's report says platform ad revenue "accounts for only 15% of their earnings" across creators, so this is a small slice for most. Details below.
- UGC. You make a video the brand runs on its own page or in ads, often without posting it yourself. On our marketplace a UGC video lists at a median of ₹5,000 (middle half ₹3,875 to ₹7,875), higher than a Reel, because the brand buys usage. The full comparison is in UGC creator vs influencer.
One more number frames all of this. Kofluence's 2025 report found that "88% of creators earn less than 75% of their income from social media". For most Indian creators Instagram is a second income, not the first. We unpack that finding in our read of the creator economy data.
What brand deals pay per Reel, Story and post
These are prices creators list on InfluencerMetric, counted on 12 October 2026: 173 packages from 72 creators, median ₹2,500 across everything, middle half ₹1,000 to ₹5,000. They are listed prices, not settled invoices.
| Format | Packages | Median listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Reel | 91 | ₹2,500 |
| Instagram Story | Small sample | ₹1,300 |
| Instagram feed post | Small sample | ₹2,500 |
| UGC video | Small sample | ₹5,000 (middle half ₹3,875 to ₹7,875) |
| Reel, under 10,000 followers (Instagram connected) | 47 | ₹2,000 |
| Reel, 10,000 to 50,000 followers (Instagram connected) | 8 | ₹4,750 |
The follower rows count only creators who connected their Instagram account, so the follower number comes from Instagram, not from what the creator typed. The 10,000 to 50,000 row rests on 8 packages, so treat it as a direction. Kofluence's 2025 report gives a wider market range for the smallest tier: Reels run from ₹500 to ₹5,000 for creators with less than 10,000 followers, and mega influencers and celebrities start at ₹2 lakh and above per collaboration. Our ₹2,000 median sits inside that range. The full rate tables by niche and format, with what moves a price up, are in Instagram collaboration rates in India; this article only summarises them.

Get my rate rangeWorked monthly income by follower tier
Here is the arithmetic a creator can actually use. The rates are our marketplace medians above. The number of deals per month is an assumption, not data. Nobody publishes how many paid deals the typical Indian creator closes each month, so we chose conservative counts and show them so you can swap in your own.
| Tier | Assumed deals a month | Rates used | Brand income a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 10,000 followers | 2 Reels + 2 Stories | Reel ₹2,000, Story ₹1,300 | ₹4,000 + ₹2,600 = ₹6,600 |
| 10,000 to 50,000 followers | 3 Reels + 3 Stories + 1 feed post | Reel ₹4,750, Story ₹1,300, post ₹2,500 | ₹14,250 + ₹3,900 + ₹2,500 = ₹20,650 |
| Same tier, one UGC video added | As above + 1 UGC video | UGC ₹5,000 | ₹20,650 + ₹5,000 = ₹25,650 |
| 50,000 followers and above | Not published | Only 2 Reel packages in our data | Use the formula below with your own rate |
The table leaves out affiliate commissions, Instagram payouts (small for most, see below) and barter deals, where the product is the payment. It also assumes you close those deals every month.
The one line formula: monthly income = (Reels a month × your Reel rate) + (Stories a month × your Story rate) + (posts a month × your post rate) + affiliate commissions + Instagram payouts. Put in your own rates and a deal count you have actually hit, not one you hope for. If you do not have a rate yet, the Instagram earnings calculator gives you a starting estimate from your follower count and engagement.
What Instagram itself pays in India
Instagram's help centre lists two monetisation tools available in India, and one that is not.
- Gifts. Viewers buy stars and send them as gifts on your Reels. Instagram's help page says it pays "a revenue share from your reels that received gifts on a monthly basis equal to $.01 USD for every star received from fans". To earn you need a professional account, to be 18 or older, at least 500 followers, a payout account set up, and to meet the Partner Monetization Policies. India is on the country list. Collaborative posts and accounts that mainly post content about children are not eligible.
- Subscriptions. Followers pay a monthly fee for exclusive content. Eligibility requires a professional account with at least 10,000 followers, age 18 or older, and compliance with the monetisation policies. India is on the list. You check whether it is switched on for you in the Professional dashboard, where the option "Set up subscriptions" appears if you are eligible.
- Bonuses. Instagram's bonus program pays for Reel and post performance, but the help page says bonuses "are invite-only for select creators in Japan, South Korea and the United States". Indian creators cannot get them today.
Instagram's Creator Marketplace, where brands find creators inside the app, needs a professional public account with at least 1,000 followers and is open in every country where Meta advertising operates, India included. Whether Instagram pays for Reel views, and how Gifts work step by step, is covered in does Instagram pay for Reels in India, so we will not repeat it here.
How big is the market you are selling into
Boston Consulting Group's May 2025 report From Content to Commerce counts 2 to 2.5 million monetised content creators in India influencing more than $350 to 400 billion in consumer spending, and projects "$1 trillion+ in creator-influenced consumption by 2030". Kofluence's 2025 report puts the influencer marketing industry itself at ₹3,000 to ₹3,500 crore.
Taxes in one paragraph
Brand payments, affiliate commissions and Instagram payouts are all income, and barter products count too. Brands may deduct tax at source before paying you, so the amount that lands can be less than the invoice, and above a turnover level you need GST registration and must add GST to every quote. The thresholds, rates, which ITR form to file and how to claim your phone, ring light and editing software as expenses are in influencer income tax in India. Keep every brand's payment advice and read that guide before your first filing.
How to earn more
- Price from data, not from fear. Most new creators quote below the ₹2,000 median because they do not know it exists. Our guide to how to price yourself as an influencer in India walks through a rate card and when to raise it.
- Sell engagement, not followers. The 10,000 to 50,000 tier lists Reels at more than double the under 10,000 tier, but within a tier the creator with the higher engagement rate wins the deal. Know your number: what a good Instagram engagement rate in India is, and check yours with the free engagement rate calculator.
- Stack formats. A Reel plus three Stories is one brief, one shoot and one invoice, but it is ₹2,500 plus ₹3,900 at our medians instead of ₹2,500 alone. Package it.
- Add a UGC line. A UGC video lists at twice a Reel because the brand buys the right to use it. You do not need a big audience for UGC, only good video.
- Pitch more than you close. The creator in this story of going from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh a year did not wait for inbound. The scripts are in how to approach brands for collaboration.
- Show verified numbers. Brands pay more when they can see the stats come from Instagram, not a screenshot. Connecting your account on a marketplace does exactly that.
Get booked with verified stats. List your Reel, Story and UGC packages at your price, connect Instagram so brands see real numbers, and get paid when the work is approved.
