If you remember one thing about getting booked by brands, make it this: your engagement rate matters more than your follower count.
A 15,000-follower account with great engagement is often worth more to a brand than a 150,000-follower account where nobody reacts. So let's figure out what "good" actually looks like, and how to check yours.
How to work out your engagement rate
The simple version everyone uses:
Engagement rate = (average likes + comments per post ÷ followers) × 100
Take your last 10 to 12 posts. Add up the likes and comments, find the average, divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. That's your number. Saves and shares count too, but likes-plus-comments is the version brands know.
What's a good rate in India?
Here's the thing: engagement naturally drops as you get bigger. Big accounts just have more quiet followers. So "good" depends on your size:
- Nano (1k to 10k): 4 to 8% or more is normal. This is the sweet spot brands love.
- Micro (10k to 50k): around 2.5 to 5% is healthy.
- Mid (50k to 500k): roughly 1.5 to 3.5% is solid.
- Big (500k+): 1 to 2% is normal. Anything above that is strong.
Quick rule of thumb: above 3% is good for most Indian accounts. And if you're a small creator beating that easily, that's exactly why brands are choosing people like you.
